10 Peaks Challenge in aid of the Youth Adventure Trust

10 Peaks Challenge in aid of the Youth Adventure Trust

by T H WHITE on October 9, 2020

On Saturday 3 October, four teams from T H WHITE successfully completed a modified version of the 10 Peaks Challenge raising money for the Youth Adventure Trust.  The teams included representatives from our Group services, T H WHITE Dairy, T H WHITE Projects and T H WHITE Machinery Imports divisions.

The weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the T H WHITE ’10-Peak Challengers’.

Due to severe weather brought by storm Alex the event was very nearly cancelled. However, thankfully the organisers dug deep, re-positioned volunteer mountain guides, and revised the route to avoid certain peaks and ridges that had become more dangerous in the conditions. The event went ahead with the teams setting off well before sunrise and having to brave the storm that lasted throughout the day. The extreme conditions included almost continuous pelting rain, strong gusty winds, very poor visibility and hailstones thrown in for good measure. At one point the route did drop below the clouds and there was a glimpse of the spectacular views usually on offer.  For the majority of the many hours spent on the hills, we couldn’t feel our hands or faces and were wet through – despite this the teams maintained their sense of humour and good spirits all day… and into the evening!

By taking on this challenge, we raised money for the worthy cause of the Youth Adventure Trust which has been inspiring vulnerable young people through outdoor and adventure activities for over 25 years. Their three school-year programme gives vulnerable 11-14 year olds the hope, confidence and skills to face their daily challenges and build their resilience so they can fulfil their potential and make positive decisions that will influence their future. Now, more than ever, charities such as the Youth Adventure Trust need funding to continue supporting the most vulnerable in society. A huge thank you to those from T H WHITE who took part in this charity event to help raise money for the Trust. It was certainly a weekend that nobody will forget!

On behalf of those who took part, the YAT and the beneficiaries of the donations, I would like to thank everyone who has so kindly donated so far. The amount the teams have raised will put at least three, probably four vulnerable young people from the ages of 11 to 14 through a three year mentoring and support programme, including giving them the opportunity to take part in outdoor adventures, to help them build resilience.

If you would like to boost our total, there’s still time to donate and the links to the sponsorship pages are below:
